New Prodains Lift

The new Prodains lift is capable of carrying 2000 people per hour up the mountains

The new Prodains lift is up and running.

It looks very cool indeed.  The new lift, which has been built at a cost of 25 millions euros replaces the 50 year old Prodains cable car which was built in 1962.

The old cable car was only capable of getting 450 people per hour up the mountain.

The new system is a cable car, gondola, hybrid.  It runs continuously like a gondola, but each cabin can accommodate 35 people (24 seated and 11 standing).  With the 12 cabins currently in use, the new Prodains lift is capable of carrying 2000 people per hour up the mountains.  This could be upgraded to 2400 per hour by the addition of 2 more cabins.  The long term plan is for this to be extended all the way into the centre of Morzine, which would be awesome.

As it is, the new Prodains lift is a very welcome addition to the skiing infrastructure and it’s good to see that they have greatly extended the parking facilities.  Let’s hope they lay on a few more buses too!
